The Ganzaria mountain is a hill located above the village of San Michele di Ganzaria about 800 meters above sea level, facing part of the southern most part of Mount Erei.
It seems that its name derived from the Arabic Hianzaryah, which means “cinghialeria” area populated by wild boar. Certainly it was that in the past. Ideal for an excursion thanks to the presence of a beautiful picnic area located in the woods.
The area is rich in majestic oaks, pines and eucalyptus. But it is the spectacular variety of orchids (photo) that makes this mountain famous.
Among its principal tenants are: porcupines, hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits, weasels, owls, kestrals, buzzards…..
